Having your wedding cake . . . and eating it too!

How many tiers?

What does the quintessential autumn wedding cake look like?
Just last week we saw one in dusty pink and lovely burnt orangey brown color – it
worked perfectly. You can also never go wrong with a beautiful bunch of handmade
wafer paper flowers. But we think for autumn the key is getting the color right.

What flavors are sure crowd pleasers this time of year?
Flourless chocolate almond cake is popular at the moment! It’s beautifully dense and
gooey, and it works perfectly under fondant. Additionally, apple spice cake with
caramel buttercream, banana cake layered with white chocolate mud, macadamias
and caramel buttercream are autumn-ly delicious!

When should you start thinking of your wedding cake?

Many bakeries take bookings a year in advance. The common booking time frame is
6 to 9 months in advance.

For parties of up to 60 people a two-tier cake. For up to 80, a three-tier and for up to
100, a four-tier should more than suffice. But for those of you who are having micro-
weddings, get creative and have a think about smaller options like cake pops,
cupcakes or id cake isn’t your thing, how about a donut wall!
